Olympic Casino’s bar lady Janika Roosimäe won international cocktail competition!

The 18th Annual Calvados Nouvelle Vogue International Trophies is a cocktail competition that took place on April 7 in Touques-Deauville in France with all in all 38 competitors from 14 different countries taking part in its various categories. The competition categories were student barmen, professional barmen and journalists.

Estonian Janika Roosimäe representing Olympic Casino won the category of professional barmen with the all day cocktail Ti Amo.

The second place was awarded to a French barman and the third to a Polish contestant.

In the youth category Kristo Lassi (Fish & Wine) gave a fine and confident presentation and gained his first international competition experience. Kirsti Valdstein-Timmer was another first-timer in the world of bars, achieving the excellent fourth place in the journalists’ category, losing to the third place by merely one point!

This year the theme of the competition was ‘2014 – the year of perfumes by Jean Patou’. Producers of Calvados celebrate the centennial anniversary of the establishment of the Jean Patou world of fashion and perfumes by inviting barmen to step into the footprints of the fashion designers and creators of perfumes of the 1920s who were everyday visitors in Deauville and passionate cocktail fans.

This year’s competition called for the participants to embrace the approach of Jean Patou by expressing their ideal man or woman, public figure or unknown blonde, brunette or redhead and mix a cocktail with Calvados that would match and characterise the ideal chosen by the competitor. And naturally the competitor had to convince us of its perfect harmony with the verbal description.
